What is laser marking?

Laser technology

Laser marking is a non-contact process for permanently marking a wide variety of materials and surfaces, flexible and versatile depending on the material.

Tempering

The laser beam generates a brownish oxidation on the metal surface through heating. The surface structure remains completely intact.

Removal of a top layer

The laser removes a previously applied layer so the contrast comes from the color of the underlying material.

Color change: Foaming

The laser melts the material in a targeted manner, trapped gas bubbles create raised, brightly visible markings.

Colour change: Carbonization

The laser selectively burns plastic molecules on the surface, creating dark, smooth markings as it cools.

Melting

The laser melts the surface only slightly, maintains the corrosion resistance of the coating and produces high-contrast, reflective engravings.

Material removal

The laser removes the base material selectively to the millimeter range. The metal liquefies or vaporizes. This is also called deep laser engraving.

Glass engraving

The laser creates controlled microcracks in the glass, allowing three-dimensional structures to be precisely engraved.

Software

Our in-house developed laser software, TAMPOPRINT Laser Suite, is optimally matched to the MONOLIGHT laser marking systems. It enables precise, reproducible control of all laser parameters and intuitive operation for efficient and standardized production processes. The software supports cliché manufacturing and offers preset parameters for all laser-compatible TAMPOPRINT clichés. This reduces setup times and increases process reliability.
